Our pumpkins stayed in such perfect condition for months after Halloween and Thanksgiving. But we finally decided it was time to throw them out one day. And by throw them out. I literally mean, we pick them up and throw them out in our field. We live on 20 acres, down a dirt road, in the country. So I like to throw out food and anything biodegradable since we have plenty of room for it. Our dogs enjoy playing with some of the stuff we throw out as well. They love chewing on pumpkins, watermelon rind, corn cobs etc.
But anyways, this must have been an attempt from my 1 year old, because it didn’t make it far and now we have a pumpkin patch next to our front porch. I was convinced it was a watermelon plant for an entire month, then once the leaves started to mature, I did some more research. Turned out that my watermelon plant turned into a pumpkin plant.
I’ve been watching the growth every day. My husband and kids have even gotten into it. They go out and check it just as much as I do. And I’ve found myself doing extensive research on growing pumpkins. I can’t wait to see what we end up with in a couple months! Guess we won’t be buying pumpkins this year!
